Your Guide to SWFL’s biggest waterpark

Sun Splash Family Waterpark is Southwest Florida’s largest waterpark, and it’s a local favorite for good reason! Spread over about 14 acres, it’s packed with big thrill slides, a lazy river made for floating, play areas for little ones, and the new Paradise Cove wave pool. Locals have been coming back year after year, and it’s easy to see why this is the place to splash, laugh, and make vacation memories together.

To make sure your first visit goes smoothly here’s a quick guide to cover everything you should know from height requirements to what to pack (and what to leave at home). Plus tips from locals to help you fully enjoy your day at Sun Splash Cape Coral.

What is SunSplash Waterpark?

Sun Splash Family Waterpark sits at 500 W Lake Kennedy Dr in Cape Coral, FL, and it’s been a local favorite since it opened in 1992. Generations of families have grown up spending summer days here, and many locals now bring their own kids to the same park.

Inside the gates, you’ll find speed slides and drop slides for thrill-seekers, a quarter-mile lazy river that’s perfect for a slow float, Pirate’s Cove for the little ones, and Paradise Cove, the wave pool with a big video screen at the edge. There’s something for every age and comfort level, so everyone in the group can find a favorite spot.

Keep in mind that Sun Splash Family Waterpark is seasonal, so it isn’t open year-round. Hours change by date, with daily hours around spring break and summer and a lighter schedule in spring and fall, when the park may open only on certain days. Weather can also affect operations, so it’s smart to plan ahead. Check the park’s calendar before you pick your day, and look again shortly before you go in case anything has changed.

SunSplash Rides

Before you buy tickets, measure your kids so there are no surprises at the top of the stairs. Most of the big slides need riders to be 48 inches tall, and a few let shorter riders join an adult. The signs at each ride always have the final word.

Pirate’s Cove

An interactive play structure with small slides, a hydro storm, water blasters, gushers, and geysers. Little ones can repeat it all day while the grown-ups rest nearby.
Under 48 in. Best for toddlers and young kids.

Pro Racers

Child-sized racing slides that give younger kids a thrill of their own.
Under 48 in. Best for younger kids.

Main Stream River Tube Ride (lazy river)

A quarter-mile lazy river that winds past Lake Kennedy and is the best reset button in the park.
Check posted signs. Fun for all ages.

Paradise Cove Wave Pool

Waves run in cycles of about 15 minutes, then the pool calms. The zero-depth entry lets small kids ease into the waves gradually, with an adult close by.
Check posted signs. Great for mixed-age groups.

Drop Slides

Free-fall feeling before you land in the pool.
Minimum 48 in. Best for kids and teens.

Zoom Flume

Starts from the same 30-foot tower as Fun-L-Tunnel. Zoom Flume is open-air.
Minimum 48 in. Best for kids and teens.

Fun-L-Tunnel

A dark tunnel you ride without a tube.
Minimum 48 in. Best for teens and thrill-seekers.

Terror Tube, Thunder Bump, and X-cellerator

The three speed slides and the park’s tallest, fastest rides.
Minimum 48 in. Best for teens and thrill-seekers.

Cape Fear

A 215-foot ride through a dark tunnel from a 30-foot platform, on a single or double tube.
Minimum 48 in. alone, or 36 in. on a double tube with an adult and a life jacket. Best for families and thrill-seekers.

Electric Slide and Power Surge:

A five-story, twisting drop of about 457 feet.
Minimum 48 in. alone, or 36–47 in. with an adult on a double tube, child seated in front, with a life jacket. Best for teens and adults.

What to Know Before You Go

Bags are checked at the gate, so a quick pack with the rules in mind will save you time. We also recommend checking the website for the most up-to-date rules.

What you can bring

• Factory-sealed water bottles (one per person)
• Your own empty cup
• Stroller
• Water shoes
• Extra towels
• Sunscreen
• Waterproof phone pouch
• Empty cup of your own to fill inside the park
• Coast Guard approved life jackets (the park also provides free ones, first come, first served)

What you can’t bring

• Coolers
• Outside food and drinks
• Alcohol
• Outside floats

Food and drink policy

Outside food and drinks stay out of the park, with a few exceptions: sealed water, an empty cup you can fill inside, and medically necessary food for an individual. A handy workaround is keeping a cooler in the car, eating lunch there, and using your re-entry wristband to come back in. It saves money on a day when park food adds up fast.

Lockers

Lockers are available and easy to use. They’re self-pay, keyless, and electronic, and they take a card. A rental lasts until the park closes with options for small, medium, and large. They’re worth it if you’re carrying phones, keys, or dry clothes you don’t want to watch all day.

Adult chaperone policy

Guests 15 and under need to come with an adult who is at least 21, and one adult can supervise up to eight kids. The park checks ID at the gate, so bring a government-issued photo ID if you’re the adult for a group of cousins or friends. Teens 16 and older going in on their own may need ID too.

Weather closures

Florida weather does what it wants! The park doesn’t refund tickets for ordinary rain, but if it closes for 30 minutes or longer because of weather, daily-admission guests who leave may get a free ticket to come back another day. Keep your same-day proof of purchase. Summer storms tend to roll in during the afternoon, so plan your big-slide time for the morning. Paradise Cove could also close for weather or maintenance while the rest of the park stays open.

Special events

Sun Splash hosts special events through the season, including Dive-In Movies at Paradise Cove and spring break celebrations (past years have included a DJ and a foam party). Check the park’s calendar or social media before you go, and ask at the gate if you’re planning to stay into the evening.

Tips for a Great Experience

Arrive early (and stay nearby)

Try to get there close to opening, already sunscreened and with your tickets ready. Lines are shortest, the pavement is cooler, and you’ll have a better shot at chairs in a good spot. Start with the big slides for minimal wait times, then move to the lazy river or wave pool as the day heats up.

Stay nearby at Sea Turtle Retreat in SE Cape Coral, only 6 minutes by car from Sun Splash Family Waterpark! This villa comes stocked with family-friendly amenities, including a private fenced yard, a heated pool with a basketball hoop, and two adult bikes for exploring. It’s an ideal home base for relaxing after a long waterpark day.

Wear water shoes

The pavement gets hot by midday, so pack water shoes or sandals for walking between rides. Shoes aren’t allowed on the body-contact slides but there are shoe drop offs near the rides.

Maximize ticket savings

Online tickets are usually discounted from the gate price, and the listed online prices are sometimes cheaper for guests under 48 inches. Children 2 and under get in free.
Consider combo ticket deals if you plan on eating inside the park. It includes admission, a combo meal, and an all-day drink wristband.

Get a cabana

A cabana gives you shade, a place to leave your things, and a home base for the day. With Florida sun beating down, having a covered spot to cool off between rides makes a big difference. Your towels, dry clothes, and snacks stay in one place, so you aren’t hauling bags around or hunting for an open chair. It also gives the adults a comfortable spot to rest and keep an eye on the kids. On a busy day, a reserved spot also means you don’t have to arrive at opening just to claim seating. Just note that cabana rentals are an additional cost to park admission.

Know your dining options

The park has food pavilions throughout that serve burgers, hot dogs, chicken dippers, personal pizzas, frozen treats like Mini Melts and frozen cookie dough, ICEE-style drinks, fruit slushies, HTeaO iced tea, and Pepsi products.

Adults can also purchase beer and cocktails.

Have your barcode ready

Buy your tickets online and keep the barcodes ready on your phone. You’ll skip the ticket window and go straight to the entrance. Screenshot the barcodes before you arrive in case your signal is weak at the gate, or print them if you prefer.
